Health Insurance News - Echinacea Benefits

Having the right health insurance is one of the most beneficial steps you can take towards maintaining good physical and financial health. Being proactive about your health and living a healthy lifestyle not only adds to your quality of life, but also helps lower health care costs. So we think you'll be interested to know about a new study about the benefits of echinacea.

According to CBC News, a new study reports that taking echinacea herbal supplements may cut the risk of catching a cold by more than 58%. The study was published in The Lancet Infectious Diseases medical journal.

If these statistics hold true, this means fewer doctor visits, less money spent on cold medicines and fewer days lost at work - savings that could add up to hundreds of thousands of dollars when considering how many Americans catch a cold very year.

More research is needed, and the high number of available echinacea products may seem a little overwhelming. It's interesting to note that the World Health Organization recognized echinacea as a cold treatment in 1999.

If you're interested in trying echinacea supplements the next time you feel like you may be coming down with a cold, make sure you consult your doctor if you have special medical concerns. And pregnant or nursing women shouldn't take supplements unless prescribed by a physician.

Having the right individual or family health insurance combined with being proactive with your health will help ensure a long happy life.
